Eilidh Steel and Mark Neal are a Scottish music duo playing traditional and contemporary tunes and songs with many of their own compositions on fiddle, guitar and vocals. Continuing in the traditions of Scottish music with many influences from Argyll and the West Coast of Scotland, they blend the historical and modern perspective using older and newer compositions. Both Eilidh and Mark are prolific composers writing tunes and songs, taking influences from a wide range of musical styles from piping and fiddling to indie/funk/jazz and everything else around… they tour throughout the world and have done many TV and radio programmes. SUGARBOAT REIVERS FIRST HELENSBURGH GIG
"A band firmly rooted in the tradition yet displaying a hugely imaginative approach to arrangements.” Tom Holmes, Star Folk Club
The Sugarboat Reivers are a new progressive trad band rooted in the Scots-language traditions of lowland Scotland and currently based in Helensburgh. Having rehearsed in the Helensburgh area for the last few months, the RealAle Festival will be the band’s first local gig. A contemporary folk band, its bias is towards songs – from eerie or driving ballads to the blackly humorous – but spiced with traditional and original tunes, all presented and reinvented in ways which are creative and often surprising. As well as vocals and vocal harmonies, the four-piece lineup includes harp, cello, octave mandolin/guitar, and fiddle.
The band members are veterans of the Scottish and international folk scene. Seylan Baxter on vocals and cello and Ruaridh Pringle on vocals, octave mandolin and guitar recently moved to Helensburgh from Milngavie and North Uist respectively, while harper, Cheyenne Brown, though originally from Alaska, lives on the outskirts of Milngavie and ex-Malinky fiddler, Jon Bews travels from Kelso to Helensburgh to rehearse with the band.
And the location prompted a local name for the newly formed band – having kayaked out to the Sugarboat, the Sugarboat Reivers seemed an appropriate name! They will soon be recording an album for release this autumn and will begin local international touring this summer.

7:00 pm Harmonica Lewinsky
Harmonica Lewinsky are one of the best blues bands performing in Scotland today. The band members have over one hundred years of experience between them and are all accomplished musicians in their own right. Put them together and they produce outstanding blues. Rab’s the dancer, who stands at the front, bawlin intae a microphone an’ sookin’ and blawin’ on a moothie. Kieth has blindin’ flashes o’ mediocrity between longer periods o’mindblawin’ brilliance.
And he’s no bad on the guitar too. Smiler staun’s at the back wi’ a wee tiny instrument but a large sound. Martin sits at the back (‘cos he’s auld) an’ hits animal skins wi’ bits o’ wood
